Barbie Dinner

Barbie Dinner

"I don't have anything big planned. Just a giant blowout party with all the Barbies." If ever there were a film quote to inspire a tablescape, this is it. The theme for this dinner party was every shade of pink: from fuchsia to cerise.

Set The Table

Barbie Tablescape

The coincidence of designing my first collection in every shade of pink in the summer of Barbie's movie release was not intentional. But I am delighted! It brings yet another reason to use my linens and share the story of them with friends. I love the hand-painted summer florals of these plates from Penny Morrison. Their whimsical style ties in perfectly with my linens. Keeping it relaxed, I knotted the napkins and places them on the side of the plates with a calligraphy name card on the right.

There's no science to the knot but I do think it helps to iron the napkins first and loosen them slightly, letting the corners of the design fall over the plate. I painted my own roses and then the summer florals on the menus to tie it all together. Candles are this fun spiral design. I placed them in holders of different heights to give movement.

For the flowers, I used the gorgeous seasonal Watermelon Sugar bouquet from Wild At Heart. The Sheffield Park Roses are just as exuberant as I think Barbie would have in her own house. I love the way the foliage of hornbeam and philadelphus ground the arrangement, stopping it from being too sugary sweet.

$34.00

A pair of napkins in the Jaipur Bloom print. These were Rosanna's first design, inspired by evenings on her terrace in Jaipur, where bougainvillea bloomed and roses formed the table centrepiece. Rosanna's hand-drawn florals were carved into a wooden block print. This was then stamped by hand onto Indian cotton using the ancient technique of block printing, for which Jaipur is famed. It is a craft that has been handed down from generation to generation. No two napkins will be quite the same due to the hand-technique used. Each corner of the napkin features the design so there are lots of ways to style it.

As seen in House & Garden magazine.

Sold as a pair. The price stated is for 2 napkins.

Napkin size: 50cm x 50cm

Summer Flower Plate

Hand-painted and hand-glazed by artisans in Portugal, this plate is a piece to treasure forever on your table.

Grosgrain Ribbon

I often tie cutlery with grosgrain ribbon in the summer (velvet in the winter) and VV Rouleaux has the best quality around.

Spiral Candle

All of the designs from Candle Flair are drip-free and smokeless. This twisted design is pure fun and I adore the colour.

Gem Wine Glasses

Every shade of pink in wine glass form. They remind me of semi precious jewels.

Gold Cutlery

I love gold next to warm pink colours like these. This classic, modern set is from Habitat.
