Blue Dahlia Jewel Collection

Blue Dahlia Jewel Collection

Indigo blue was one of the first dyes used for block printing. Dating as far back as the 8th century, the indigo plants turns yellow in water but blue when exposed to the air. After the Jaipur pinks of my first collection, I wanted to try blue (and my three-year old requested it!).

Blue Dahlias

Jaipur is known for its pinks: from the terracotta of the old city walls to the fuchsia of its bougainvillea. But the blue murals live on in my memory: there is the rich cobalt of the Chhavi Niwas in the City Palace or the cerulean floral wall paintings in the Durbar Hall of Samode Palace.

Reimagining my dahlia drawings in this deep blue gives the block print a romantic take perfect for long winter nights. It is also decidedly practical; lots of you requested a dark-coloured tablecloth more resilient to stains. That said, I had to add some flair! There is a 6-inch ruffle all through the hem. I love this photo of it being sewn in Jaipur by the tailor, Mohan.

Rosanna Falconer sits in blue dining room

I love to go monochrome with a table, in this case, simply bringing out the blue and white from the print. What a place to begin in this blue dining room! It belongs to my friend Kinvara Law who also designed by engagement ring. Her bespoke jewellery designs are as stylish as her home.

This is a round table so the centrepiece was a little smaller with taper candles towering over bud vases. I adore these handmade ceramic designs by my friend Deborah Brett in her signature bubble glaze. I filled them with the very last of this autumn's dahlias mixed in with delphiniums and foliage.

A menu with lots of autumnal, seasonal ingredients. I always love Meera Sodha's recipe for zesty, crunchy Jaipur Slaw. Such a good side dish.

Finally, I need to share this Chocolate Meringue Mousse Cake recipe! It's like the iconic Chocolate Nemesis Cake but much quicker and easier. And even with the shortcuts, it still melts in the mouth.
