Long Weekend Garden Tea Party

Long Weekend Garden Tea Party

This tablescape was for The Telegraph, who asked me how I would be hosting for the coronation of Charles III this coming weekend. It was an opportunity to use my table linens in a setting very different to Jaipur: my mother-in-law's English garden. Spring has been late; this corner suddenly leapt from winter hibernation to flourishing bluebells, forget-me-nots and tulips in the space of a week, just in time for the coronation weekend.

Set The Table

Coronation Weekend

I love to champion the creativity and innovation of British designers; it was instilled in me since my first job British Fashion Council. This jumpsuit has the glamour of a long dress (especially in this powerful scarlet red) but you can dash around - I almost always have my baby in one arm, a serving plate in the other and my 3-year-old pulling at my clothes demanding a dance to 'Old MacDonald Had A Farm’!

This was a chance to style the Jaipur Bloom collection in a fresh way. I finished the napkins with these rings from Bonadea. They are crafted by a female-led community of artisans using 100% sustainable harvested sisal indigenous to Eswatini. I love the way rings can add such flourish to the linens.

The tall taper candles in blue, ivory and ruby arching over the table are my nod to the colour palette of this celebratory weekend for the UK. And candles always add romance when the sun goes down too (any good afternoon tea extends long past sunset, after all!)

Peonies and spring flowers as tablescape centrepiece

May is one of my favourite months for flowers here: peonies have just arrived at New Covent Garden Market. These Coral Charm begin as tight fuchsia gold balls then unfurl their leaves to a rich coral before fading to a pale peach. I love to hero them next to the many-petaled ranunculus then adding blossom for height and fronds of sweet peas, forget-me-nots and bluebells for some whimsical movement.
