Samode Palace Tablescape

Samode Palace Tablescape

I'll never forget the first moment I walked into the blue room of Samode Palace's Durbar Hall. I had read about it in books but nothing prepared me for its splendour. The colours capture the calming power of blue while its arches possess symmetry to rival a Wes Anderson scene.

It has been a mainstay of my moodboard ever since. I even have my photograph of its main archway framed at home in London. When seeking a light blue for my new Peony Bloom print, it sprung straight to mind. What a privilege to photograph the design in its esteemed hall.

For this tablescape, I just wanted to lean into the monochromatic blue and revel in its beauty. For the floristry, I kept to an all-white palette with ranunculus and bougainvillea from our terrace, as well as dahlias and dianthus kindly given from the gardens of Samode Palace. I love to pair cool colours with silver. In this case, the silverware is from Rezon Luxury Silverware and there are touches of silver on the rims of the Good Earth glassware, too.

SizeRound 240cm

A light blue tablecloth with a new peony print. Inspired by the floral frescoes of Samode Palace (pictured) and the unfurling petals of the Duchesse De Nemours peony, Rosanna drew the print by hand. This design was then traced, cut into teak wood and block printed by the talented artisans with whom she works in Jaipur. The tablecloth is finished with a 4-inch ruffle hem.

Printed by hand, no two tablecloths are ever quite the same. Block printing is a technique handed down from generation to generation, whether it is the deft, delicate touch required to carve the motifs from teak or pear wood, or the light, exact tap used to stamp onto fabric.

Matching napkins available.

I folded the napkins into neat squares then tied the silver cutlery with ribbons made from offcuts of this block print. What a privilege to create a tablescape in this prestigious setting. Thank you to Mukesh who heads up events and weddings at the palace for his invaluable help with this set-up. You can find out more about stays and events at the palace hotel here.
